DjembeA large goblet-shaped wooden drum from Africa. The player straddles the drum, which is often hung by a harness around the neck and shoulders. The goat-skin drum head is played with open hands; the center of the head gives a deep booming tone, while a strike near the rim creates a sharp, piercing note.
